Stainless Steel 201 is an austenitic alloy with major elements such as iron, chromium (16-18%), nickel (3.5-5.5%), and manganese (5.5-7.5%). It offers good corrosion and oxidation resistance. It shows excellent formability, strength, and toughness and has good weldability and fabricability. Tensile strength is about 70-90 ksi (485-620 MPa) while yield strength is around 30-45 ksi (205-310 MPa). It exhibits moderate acid resistance making it suitable to applications such as kitchen equipment, architectural elements, and industrial machinery. Nevertheless, compared to higher-nickel grades, it has lower corrosion resistance.
